Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Manchester, Massachusetts –a really small town. Then I moved to the Bay Area, California when I was 13, which was a good decision on my parents’ part.

How did you get your start in drawing?
I’ve always drawn since I was little. I have barely gotten better at it, which is great.

Tell us a little bit about this collection you worked on?
I just wanted stuff that I would wear. Simple, good looking clothes that I could see a dude on the street wearing and be all, “Hey man, you look nice.”

How was the process for you?
Fun. You made me do 1000 drawings a day and then magically made it all work out. It was freeing because I got to do exactly what I wanted, or got what I wanted in the end.

What inspires you in your work?
I like seeing how it all comes out in the end. I also like to sit still and drink beer and watch TV or listen to music while drawing for hours. I like bright colours and paper and funny drawings. I like to think about what was going through my head when I was drawing a particular piece. I get excited thinking about showing the work to other people.

How is life treating you in L.A.? How long have you and Ruth been down there?
Thanks for asking, it’s great down here. The weather and the beach are incredible. It’s like we moved to a vacation. People always think L.A. is gross and fake, but it’s kind and diverse and so, so big. We love it.

How has life in L.A. differed from your time in S.F.?
I stay home a lot more now. Riding your bike at night in L.A. can be kinda hectic but other than that it’s pretty much the same. We go to shows, bars, explore weird shit downtown, whatever.

How is everything going with your new kids show idea?
Dude! It’s my favourite thing I have ever worked on. It’s for little kids, but I think it’s super funny.

How did it come about?
My buddy Jim Dirschberger and I would make cartoons together and Nickelodeon saw them and asked us to pitch them some ideas. We did, and now we’re in development. It has taken forever.

You had mentioned you had another cartoon coming out soon? What’s the story behind it?
It’s called Hot Garbage. It’s a collaborative effort of cartoon shorts that I’m a part of. My cartoons are G.G Lives! and Top Dog. G.G Lives is about G.G Allin coming back to life and really bumming people out. Top Dog is about a shitty dog that gets whatever he wants. I’m excited about it. The other people involved in the show are Jim Dirschberger, Andreas Trolf, Mel Kadel, Travis Millard, Will Laren and many more.

Tell us a little bit about the Wave Taggers series you’ve been working on?
In San Francisco there are a ton of surfers that are also really well known graffiti guys. I thought it would be funny to have them tagging while surfing. I still always love to tag and have a pen with me most wild nights I go out. I think all graffiti looks awesome.

Are you excited to show the Wave Taggers work in Tokyo?
Oh man you have no idea! If I don’t go to jail or the hospital, I’ll be super surprised. Any other upcoming shows for this year? Yeah, two in New York. Also, Portland, San Diego and San Francisco. They should be fun. I’m excited to travel around.

What projects are you currently working on?
I’ve been buying tons of old books with funny titles, cutting the pages out and then painting what I think the illustration should be on them. I have a 52-page colour book coming out soon. It’s a fun project. I’m doing some skateboards for Creature, wheels for OJ’s and snowboards for GNU right now. I love completing tasks.

What have you been listening to lately?
Lower Dens, The Zombies, Ghostwave, Grouper, New Order, Royal Baths, Oh Sees, Tamaryn...way too much to talk about. I’m obsessed with TV right now, I watch TV and draw at the same time. I’ve seen every episode of every show there is.

Have you been able to start the DJ thing up in L.A.?
I’ve been taking a needed break form that. I go up to S.F. to DJ a party every two months. Other than that I just like to go out, sit at the bar and drink cold ones.

You miss the Attic in S.F.?
Yeah for sure, I had some wild times there. I want to open a bar just like it in L.A.

Any new and exciting projects coming up?
Hopefully enough of them to pay the rent. Life is a trip.
