The Moonrats make music that sounds like memories; equal parts beautiful and melancholy, a just a little blurry at the edges. The sonic nostalgia they create manages to look toward the future while still giving a quiet nod to the power pop of the past, a contradiction that is no doubt a result of keyboardist Aska Matsumiya's classical piano background intertwining with singer/guitarist Nathan Thelen's love of lyrical Amerindie and drummer Jason Echeverria's affinity for powerful frenetic percussion. The three unlikely bedfellows met in Seattle and immediately began creating their own version of rock n' roll, loud and dreamy and fuzzy and fierce. The band self-released a beat-driven EP and after spending some time touring with Thelen's former band Pretty Girls Make Graves, migrated to LA to continue their aural journey. There they added recording engineer and bassist Pete Lyman to the line-up, and are currently working on a full-length recording which is slated for release January '09 on Infrasonic Records.
