In 1999 in Guelph, ON, one of Canada’s finest indie rock bands took formation, releasing their self-titled debut in 2000. The Constantines, who are now based in Toronto, ON, have since released three more brilliant albums to international acclaim: Shine a Light (2002), Tournament of Hearts (2005), and the most recent Kensington Heights (2008). In the words of the Weakerthans’ John K. Samson, the Constantines “co-opt the sometimes aggressive conventions of rock to express the overwhelming parts of being alive, to explore the themes of community and struggle, to remind us we belong to something larger than our individual selves.” The band members are Bry Webb (lead vocalist), Doug MacGregor (drums), Dallas Werhle (bass), Will Kidman (multiple instruments), and Steve Lambke (guitar/vocals).
