My Morning Jacket
My Morning Jacket (MMJ) recorded their first three albums in their home studio outside of Louisville, Kentucky, with the first release, The Tennessee Fire, coming out in 1999, followed by At Dawn (2001) and It Still Moves (2003). These records established the signature MMJ sound, mixing soaring harmonies with cascading, psychedelic guitars, and drenching the whole thing in head-ringing reverb. For the group’s fifth full-length album, Evil Urges, they purposely chose a very different setting, recording much of it in midtown Manhattan’s Avatar Studios. MMJ is frontman Jim James, guitarist Carl Broemel, bassist Two-Tone Tommy, keyboardist Bo Koster and drummer Patrick Hallahan.
