This past Monday, January 9th 2012 Lifetime joined forces with the good folks at School Night! for a night of musical magic in Hollywood. Mondays are usually reserved for catch-up, recovery, and movies with your babe, but this week we went for it with a packed house of party going friendlies! Leave it to LA to party every night of the week! Big shout out to everyone who came out to see the Jacuzzi Boys and were surprised w/ a last min performance by Tycho! The night was so fun!!

“South America is home of two cities I’d want to explore further after having
a brief glimpse. One is more about the scenery, adventure options, mixed
with relaxation possibilities. Rio de Janeiro ranks high with its beautiful
scenery, which is ironic since having my camera visible for more than a
couple minutes at a time runs the risk of donating it to the streets. The
high crime rate attracted by tourism is a bitch, the catch 22.

The other future revisit is more due to the warmth of the locals, though not
to ignore the photogenic, brightly colored architecture. We were in Bogota,
Colombia for 16 hours, if you count the 2 hours spent at the airport. We
had to go directly to the venue under “Beatles-mania” conditions, and the
crowd was amazing. I was woken up by drums the next morning, immediately
grabbed my camera, ran downstairs and followed a parade of mostly children
in lavish costumes.

We were able to spend a good portion of time in Santiago, Chile where I
rented a car to take us on a hike in the Andes. It was peaceful, which moved
to, dare I say, magical when an off-season Condor circled overhead for a few
minutes.

Warpaint’s final official show of 2011 took place in Honolulu last weekend,
which felt perfect on multiple levels. The girls and I have been enduring
extensive travel the past few months, adjusting to various time zones, far
from the familiar, and now we found ourselves in tranquil island isolation.
For a TV appearance and one show, we remained for 5 days. Snorkeling, boogie
boarding, and sunset dinners prevailed. Perfect.

Aside from a one-off with A-Trak in DC this month, I will be staying in Los
Angeles for the rest of the year. I will be working on select features, a
book, a gallery show along with returning to freelance photography work. I
feel fortunate to have this time to reflect on the year and to be picking
up my camera with a fresh perspective.”

Check out the newly introduced section of our website entitled, “Styled for Lifetime.” Our latest addition features clothing from the Fall, Winter and Holiday collections. The looks were created by stylist and long-time Lifetime collaborator Mila Franovic and shot on film by blossoming lenswoman Alana Paterson.

We look at clothing the way we look at art – each of us with a different set of eyes. Our sense of which items pair well, which colours match and which pieces should be layered or left alone is unique. Like genres in art, different elements of clothing also appeal to different people. Some of us are drawn to a good cut, while others prefer the more abstract qualities of pattern and colour.

Styled is a way for us to share these different interpretations of clothing. It’s a way for us, at Lifetime, to work with friends that don’t necessarily work with us that often. It gives them a chance to take our in-season collection and style and photograph the clothes in a way that makes it their own. It’s always more interesting to see other people’s vision for the clothes and to see how they capture their vision in photographs. We hope you enjoy!

Double Breaks is a group show co-curated by Jay Howell and Louis M Schmidt. Throwing together 27 artists with nearly as many styles, Double Breaks will leap from painting to graffiti, from drawing to illustration, from comics to fine art, then turn in on itself to create a vacuum of lawless, unadulterated aesthetic chaos. Finnish artist Anna Emilia illustrated the above images for The New Artisans by Olivier Dupon (Thames & Hudson). The book is chalk full of beautiful artwork by Anna Emilia and others and will be released in North America next month. It was released in Europe earlier this month.

Here are a few words from Robin about her recent travels:

“I’m writing this from my hotel room in Mexico City. We arrived yesterday,
and tonight is the sold out show. I forgot where I was when I woke this
morning, until I decided to take a walk. I’ve always enjoyed this city,
and I look forward to being taken around to explore / do press today.

It felt natural as the girls and I met at LAX yesterday late morning, after
recently finishing the 7-week “Australia/Asia/Europe” tour only two weeks
ago. I find it difficult to articulate what it feels like to be on a plane
for 6 weeks; seeing so many different parts of the world, approaching from
the sky and actually having time to explore…and now we got to South America…

Upon returning to Los Angeles, I will be putting together a book, while
simultaneously editing video footage burning a hole in my hard drive.”

“Run Off” is a group show featuring the above print and other works by Lifetime artist Hunter Longer. Other artists showing work include: Marcella Faustini, David Kasprzak, Jon Kuzmich, Reuben Lorch-Miller and Cybele Lyle.

I will be showing over 20 handpainted illustrations from my column “The Learnings of” in The Skateboard Mag. In “The Learnings of” each month I ask a Pro or Am skateboarder to write about a realm in which they feel they have some kind of specialized knowledge or experience. These Learnings arrive as advice, lists, recipes, how-to’s, annecdotes, warnings, reenactments, reflections, etc. Each month I make a painting to illustrate what my special guest chooses to tell about.

Quick & Dirty
Animated exquisite corpse project directed by 22 artists and various musicians and sound designers.

I am participating in this exciting experimental collaboration and my end frame will be posted on their blog this Saturday for the next artist to use to begin their animation.

Curated and conceived by artists Maya Erdelyi and Gina Kelly. “Quick and Dirty” refers to the idea of working fast and not over-thinking what you are creating, letting the unconscious take over and make decisions. Each artist is creating 24-60 frames in a week’s time. The only information they get is the last frame of the previous artist’s sequence. The project started on July 1, 2011 and the last frames will be completed on December 1, 2011.

The 22 artists involved are (in order of appearance):

The Banff Centre recently hosted a residency for three Canadian independent bands; The Abramson Singers (Vancouver), Mise En Scene (Winnipeg) & Doldrums (Montreal). The bands spent three weeks up at the centre writing, rehearsing & recording new work. I had the opportunity to visit the Banff Centre last Saturday night and take in their final concert which was headlined by Lifetime Collective musician Chad VanGaalen.
